چکیده

In analyzing genomes, locating transposable elements is an important step in the process of finding areas which encode genes. Class II describes a subset of transposons which have specific properties. In eukaryotic genomes, Class II transposable elements are uniquely identified by their inverted repeats on opposing ends and internal coding regions. They also can move through DNA intermediates and particularly Class II transposable elements have been used as gene vectors (1), motivating the understanding of the evolution of these elements. An example of a previously studied Class II transposable element is the P element (2). This transposable element was originally identified in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and is 2907 base pairs long and has 31 base pair inverted repeats. It was the first transposon used

Phylogenetic Analysis of Aedes aegypti Based on Mitochondrial ND4 Gene Sequences in Almadinah, Saudi Arabia

Background: Aedes aegypti is the main vector of the yellow fever and dengue virus. This mosquito has become the major indirect cause of morbidity and mortality of the human worldwide. Dengue virus activity has been reported recently in the western areas of Saudi Arabia. There is no vaccine for dengue virus until now, and the control of the disease depends on the control of the vector. Objectiv...

Members of the piggyBac transposon family in Aedes Aegypti

piggyBac is a Class-II transposable element with 13-bp inverted terminal repeats. It was originally isolated from the cabbage looper moth, Trichoplusia ni. In this article, we analyze the Aedes aegypti genome to discover possible members of the piggyBac family of transposons using a combination of techniques. Specifically, we construct a set of Hidden Markov Models based upon multiple sequence ...

Characterization of dengue virus in Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus spp. of mosquitoes: A study in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Dengue is a vector-borne disease caused by dengue virus. According to the recent report of CDC that one-third population of the world are at high risk with Dengue fever. The prevalence of the dengue hemorrhagic fever was found more in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Aedes mosquitoes was reported as the main cause of transmission of dengue virus. So the current study was planned ...

Post-Integration Silencing of piggyBac Transposable Elements in Aedes aegypti

The piggyBac transposon, originating in the genome of the Lepidoptera Trichoplusia ni, has a broad host range, making it useful for the development of a number of transposon-based functional genomic technologies including gene vectors, enhancer-, gene- and protein-traps. While capable of being used as a vector for the creation of transgenic insects and insect cell lines, piggyBac has very limit...
